Vaginal pain can greatly affect a woman's sex life, very negatively. Luckily, there is a good chance a woman's vaginal pain has a name and a treatment. Overarching pain during sex is called dyspareunia and dyspareunia encompasses several different disorders.  Endometriosis Causes Vaginal Pain


Endometriosis can cause vaginal pain that is not just associated with vaginal intercourse. Endometriosis occurs when the uterine lining, called endometrial tissue, begins growing in other areas of the body. In severe cases, it can cause infertility. And it is important to note that while pain is the most prominent symptom of endometriosis, often women present with no symptoms.
Endometriosis is diagnosed using a pelvic exam, vaginal ultrasound or laparoscopy. Once a doctor can determine that the problem is endometriosis, treatments are recommended and prescribed. Treatments for endometriosis vary from woman to woman, and also vary based on the severity of the case. Often, doctors will prescribe medication to control the pain, as well as medication to stop the endometriosis from getting worse. These medications can include birth control, and are designed to create a pseudo-pregnancy in patients, that will prevent the endometrial tissue from growing further.
Extreme cases may involve the total removal of the female reproductive system, and other surgeries can be performed to remove just the affected areas. Women who have mild symptoms and no desire to have children may just be monitored, rather than treated. Discussions with a doctor are important to create the best treatment plan.
